Spring

January 11,2011

GOOD morning from the farm. The ground was covered in a sparkly and twinkling new coating of snow. The shine from the barn light made everything twinkle. It was very pretty and calmly. But knowing what is coming tonight into tomorrow  made enjoying the peacefulness of it nice. Tomorrow at this time we should be getting 6-10 inches of new stuff. Well thats the forecast at this minute, yesterday we were at the 2-5 inches range. Which I enjoyed the thought of so much more.
Today will find me, making sure everyone has enough bedding and feed to get them through the night and parts of tomorrow in case we loose power. Al water tubs will be  filled to the brim and rabbits will have extra water dishes.  I always seem to over prepare, but better safe than sorry. Ya never know if a blizzard actually hits if you'll be able to get outside for the night feedings. So I always  feed heavy and the day before and make sure there is extra  for the next day. The goats wont like being locked up but its for their own safety.
They are saying 1-2 inches an hr sometimes so with wind we could loose power also , stocking up on extra water and making sure all wood boxes are fill ed and ready to go.
I myself enjoy it when we loose power, it gives me a chance to sit and do hand work I never take time for other wise.
Maybe a nice stew simmering all day will add a country homey feel to the snow outside also. Today will be corn beef and cabbage. It will start simmering shortly on the cook stove. We are very blessed to have that stove. I didnt have the gas one even hooked up  for the winter,we need the wood heat and this supplies my cook stove also. After cleaning the rental and stacking wood there, I will come home and work on 2 lap quilts that need to be tied off and  be ready for sale on the web site. Time to finish mating socks and get ready to venture outside, the bread will rise a little longer before I punch it down for the second time. Later this  afternoon will be cake and brownies for dessert. Maybe strawberry shortcake also.
For now from the sunny shine of the mountain have a great day
