The was trying to shine today. The warmth from the window was deceiving. As you strolled outside to feel the sun on your face and the warmth of the air, you were slapped back to reality. Winter is still got us in his hold. Watching the snow melt is like watching paint dry. slowly, you know its happening just cant quite see it.
My puddles in the driveway will be iced over again by morning and look like a skating rink instead of puddles. All the animals will be snuggled together instead of sprawled out in comfort. They all long for the warmth of the day when they dont hug the side of the barn for extra heat against the wind that seems to blow constantly the past few days.
Everything is dirty and muddy looking. The tiger lilies that are under the eaves where there is no snow have poked their heads thru. Tried to warn them Ole man winter isnt done yet.
All the animals are starting to shed out and loose their winter coats. i was petting Do the cow the other day and not really sure who ended up with more hair on them me or her. She is showing signs of calving soon. Please wait for a little warmer weather. At least I know no goats should kid out til may now.
Bought 2 blueberry bushes a few weeks ago they are sprouting and turning a nice green, now if Anthony wouldnt try so hard to prune them for me. Strawberries and onions are ready for dirt as is the potatoes that are covered in eyes.
Finally got to hang laundry on the clothes line. Something so simple is a nice simple pleasure.
been looking thru some ole fashion recipes going to start using on day a week and posting a complete meals worth of recipes, maybe something they would of eaten in the old days, depression era, prairie foods, a little of all regions. Something different. Dont know about you but I get real tired of the same stuff fixed the same way all the time. Trying to learn more about pioneer cooking and things they ate.
My orders are coming in for my pioneer clothing, I received 1 outfit the other day. Of course my family thinks I am nuts, but oh well. I dont walk around with a thong string hanging out, boxer arent up to my waist and my pants to my knees, my neighbors dont know the colors of my underclothes. I feel very feminine in these long skirt, very lady like. I would love to see more woman wear them but not all lifestyle permit it. Modern living has taken over so much Even in my own life sometimes my skirt cant be worn and I have to wear pants, which let me tell you I truly hate pants especially in the summer heat.
But if I were able to just stay home and care for my farm and live as prairie woman as Little House on the Prairie, Long skirts and dresses would be all I would have. I can mow a field, weed a garden ,haul water, and stack hay just as fast as any one else in a long skirt. Theres no tugging and binding from pants in the heat, just an uncomfortable.
We got our electric bill the other day from now on as much as possible my lanterns and candles will be used, I am not paying 200.00 a mos for lights in just the house, that doesnt count the barn. Just not going to. Not sure how others light bills are but that is just plain stupid, I cook and heat with only wood. Only electric is the lights and hot water take refigerator. very few appliances. S some major belt tighten is happening.
Well it is getting dark and supper needs to be cooked. Rob is at fire department and Nick is in his room. Chores are done so supper is the last thing for today.
I pray you all have a blessed night. Enjoy yourselves to the fullest
