Wow its been awhile since I have taken a few minutes to write.
The year is coming to an end Christmas will be here in less than 2 weeks. How do you celebrate Christmas?
Do you have big family get together or small family dinner parties?
We usually have to go to Rob's dads house sometime close to Christmas, part of their holiday traditions. Myself I would rather spend time visiting with my grand children and start some of our own family traditions.
We have 11 wonderful grandchildren this year and would love to get to see each one over Christmas.
We have been blessed so far to have the snow we received in Octobers Nor'Easter and Novembers big storm has all melted. Looking at a rain storm today, no not really normal winter weather for NH.. But hey I will take it,, means no shoveling and the animals are enjoy still being able to walk around on grass.
Ben debating whether I need to cut back on my animals and get a new pan for the farm. I have tossed it both ways, no animals just a few,.. I in my heart love my animals so I dont see them going any where. Many people have come into my life trying to offer advise on what they would do. And I understand what they mean and where they are coming from. But my animals are part of my family, most have been born here since Rob and I have been together,, so I wouldnt get rid of one of my children. I will work harder to make sure they have a good life instead.
Seed catalogs have started arriving and makes me think of warm soil and dirty finger nails.
I have a place to have a garden now and will be able to start it earlier than this past year. A wonderful family have allowed me to plant on their land.. They truly are a blessing to me.
Had a wonderful 3 mos while my brothers were here from Fla. wished they could of stayed. My brother Paul worked on my little house and got it almost livable,, today I will be moving all my sewing and crafts back up there. One that will clear out my bedroom and it will give me a place to sew and be creative in a space of my won. Thinking about a new business making childrens clothing,, little girls old fashion dresses and little boys britches and shirt.. Thinking of calling it Britches and Petticoats....Clothing they use to wear. Quality little kids clothes that dont have logos, skulls and bones, any super models faces and funky animals, something like Sunday go to meeting clothes, but for everyday wear. Where can you find a simple little girls dress? Cant at Walmart thats for sure.
Need to make my farm work and I love wearing my long skirts and dresses, makes life simpler even if for a minute. Simple doesnt mean easier,, Moving back in time when technology didnt play apart of children days, where playing outside and drinking for the garden hose or creek was just away of life.
Working harder on the plan to become more self suffient this coming year. Both our cows are bred and praying one has a girl. This year everything was male in every breed of animal we have. just one little girl was born,, Hazel my twin little goat.
More self suffient practices for next year. Bigger garden, wanting to learn cheese making, baking and canning, want to learn spinning still and rug making.
At some point we will be off the grid. But thats a few years away.
After the holidays are over we will sit down and regroup and figure out what has worked and what hasnt.
I have missed my pigs and thats one thing that will be added back to the family. Didnt have good luck with all my bunnies since my dogs like them and the kids wouldnt keep the doors locked. Will be replacing chickens and adding more guinea hens. These I do know. Would love a couple turkeys and ducks,, to grow and eat.
We were blessed this year to get a deer. Will be having venison for Christmas dinner and canning the rest of it.
During remodeling the house we have decided to take out one of the bathrooms and replace it with and upstairs pantry. Place I can store my flours and sugar salt,, things that dont like the damper basement. We finally get to use out front door. Bobby and Josh took out the old side door and recycled the deck and put a temporary one on the front for me until we can get the real farmers porch on next year. Rob has put in my nice long kitchen counter and my ole fashion cast iron sink. I love it I have a very deep side in it to be able to wash the milking bucket and bigger pans. Last weekend he also put me in a octagon window over my sink. I very much like it, its different but useful since it does open and it does have screen,,LOL..
But for today I need to get busy and update website, lots of things for sale still wonderful Inexpensive Christmas gift, useful and simple.
I pray you have an awesome day and a glorious Christmas with your loved ones.
From Ledge Hill Farm and Rob & Donna Duquette we wish a wonderful Merry Christmas and a very Blessed New Year
