What a glorious day we are having on the mountain. Woke up to a refreshing coolness to the air. Left all the windows open all night, which made sleeping peaceful. Anthony and Lily and I slept in the living room which was a whole lot cooler than the bedroom upstairs.

Got to spend some special bonding time with Lily at 1:30am,, feeding time. I believe today she recognized my voice. the smile and grabbing the pinkie was priceless. Wouldnt of missed it for the world.
Coffee is wonderful this morning, a nice hot bagel with butter and orange marmalade jam to top it off, yum yum. A peaceful way to start a country day.

Looks like we are in for more hot weather, my poor garden must be suffering. Every time it says rain, if we get a sprinkle we are lucky to get a few drops. Maybe this morning Anthony and I can take a quick trip done and apply a few extra drops of water before the heat of the day.

Its been so hot here I have resorted to looking at winter pictures during blizzard to stay cool, that doesnt cost anything,,LOL.Thinking back at hauling water because its frozen in the barn, the amount of wood we went thru, the bundling up to try to stay warm enough while doing chores. Ok i cooled off and was glad it was summer.

Today will be spent doing all the normal everyday chores plus moving hay equipment to another field. Really need to do some baking but will opt to make no bake cookies or things that are quick and easy.  Rob and Nick still need things for their lunches.

Do believe the frig is going to be replaced, it started up and sounded like a motor boat last night. Of course with farming the money is usually for another piece of equipment or grain and feed. So we need to save for one unless I can find a decent one off free cycle.

Trying to figure out different things to add to the farm stand. With the heat food is not an option. Eggs have to stay at the house for safety reasons.
Need to find a few minutes  each day wot working a few quilts and craft things. Need to add to it. Seems like I am pulled in 100 different directions daily and none are the direction I was headed.
We finally had a bantam hen hatch out some baby chicks, they are adorable. Will try to add pictures later.

How is everyone elses gardens doing, have the burnt to a crisp yet. How are the berries in your area? Some of ours are finally starting to ripen, Pretty soon it will be jamming time. Going to try to do the jam the same day as they get picked, Last yr we lost alot of berries because the freezer became unplugged and everything thawed.

Need to reorganize the pantry and restock for upcoming winter. Take stock of what is in there and make of list of things we are low on. I know the cost of simple staples are getting out of hand. Flour and sugar have sky rocketed. A 5lb bag of sugar I use to pay 1.99 for is now 3.69.. Totally out of control. Never mind coffee has double in price. I can live with out coffee but some staples are a must to help make some of the other things we need.

I suppose while the day is still cool enough, I should finish chores and get busy. Need to do some cooking and things before the heat is on.

Praying you all have a super day.

God Bless

Wednesday-July 6th,2011

Good Morning

. What a wonderful working day yesterday as.. Many hours spent going in circles around a big hay field tedding hay. Then last night we got to bale it all up. Today will be a easier day, working from home and a dump run, going to the garden.
Slow start today over slept by 90 minutes. I have made 2 lunches and fed and changed the bay made Nicks breakfast and am sitting down to a bagel and coffee, maybe I will find some energy. Thinking my ambition crawled off back to bed and is hiding under my pillow.

Kind of looks overcast and cloudy right now, they say a passing shower,, I am really praying for one, my garden needs it, and I have no hay down.  Good day for rain, I can hang laundry in the rain no problem.

I have several things I want to bake today and sew also,, so a shower, gentle rain would be a very welcome addition to the day.
I need to look up the cheese cake recipe I had saved, then realized it was on the other computer that crashed. Have plenty of eggs so a custard and cream puffs should be on the list also for today.

I really should go bush hog a field for Rob ,, but ya know when its going to be a better day if you dont run machinery,, thats one of those days.

I do need to go to the garden and finish putting some stuff in, better late than never, some people I know have had to replant because of the rain, rotted the seeds. Hand turned it over again this weekend with my hoe,,, I love the work and I need to loose 40 lbs so  its didnt hurt me in the least but I was some tired.

A good friend of mine gave me some plexiglass panels, thinking they would make good cold  frames, they have a six inch lip on them so they will sit up off the ground, we will see what I can do with them.

Sitting here with a precious bundle across my lap,,, she is coo'in an smiling. Makes everyday a wonderful day.

Made 5 gallons of laundry soap Sunday looks like a great day to use some of it up.

Well I pray you all have super day. I need to get busy.

God Bless

Happy 4th of July ----2011

HAPPY 4th OF JULY TO EVERYONE........
hope your enjoying the holiday if you have it off.

The sun is out and its hot, Rob just left to go cut hay, I have been on ACO call this morning which included a very smelling Pepe' Le' Pew (a skunk). I thought the dispatcher when he called me about it was going to wet himself laughing so hard.. Glad i could help your daily dose of laughter Mr. Ethan. But all went well and I still smell like me and not him.

Was headed to the garden til that call came in and now its just to hot to try to plant, will go later tonight or  tomorrow morning before the heat gets here.

Still have alot of small things that can be replanted during the season to fill in the empty space.
Got 2 wonderful hutches yesterday using the biggest one for the guinea hens on one side and the meat birds on the other side.. Thank you Ebony

Pick my clover buds yesterday hoping to make clover honey this week. Just need to find me some rose petals.

After finishing the dishes , I need to make another 5 gallons of laundry soap and get more done, while its is so nice out. Ambition level is almost gone,, need a cup of coffee I guess to get it going again.

Need to remember the grain store today also to pick up chicken grain.

Farm stand is picking up in business, surprised on how many craft things are selling. Need to work on sewing and getting more out there.

Well I suppose the sun is shining and I should be working  so I can post more after dark and not waste the sun shine.

I pray you all have a safe holiday and be kind to those who dont have the day off. And give thanks in everyday we have

God Bless

Good Morning from the mountain-July3rd,2011

Happy Sunday morning. Its a little foggy here on the mountain. The dampness of the air lets me know rain is on its way. Suppose to get so whooper thunder showers later.

Sitting here waiting for the next batch of laundry to finish washing, clean and wet on the line is so much better than dirt and dry in here. Mother Nature can re-rinse them I have no problem with that.

Very quiet here. No children except Robbie who is 13 so not a little one. Sami and  Miss Lilianna  are with  Johnny Sami's boy friend and Nick is with his Aunt Irene. Anthony went to his mommas. Rob and Robbie are both still sleeping. I have enjoyed 3 cups of coffee by myself.

The peaceful of watching my animals wake up and wander around shaking the nights sleep off and now scratching up breakfast and the goats  have found the corn husks that were dropped off by the lodge.
The baby goats are laying on the bush hog, which might get used today if Rob gets up and going before it starts to rain.

Have alot I want to do but not sure how much will get done before the rain. The chores and garden are first on my list ,,need to stake out the garden with dryer sheets as I was told that will help with  the deer coming they dont like the smell. Not sure how thats going to work after it rains I most likely will have to replace them each time.

Been a break done weekend around here. My frig is dead, the freezer part is following close behind, the oven on the gas stove wont stay on. Cleaned up my sisters stove to move in here and found afterward the little ignator pieces have rusted off, so really am I any better off.
Weekends like this make me want 1860 instead of 2011. No frig problems back then,,, I could easily go back in time, people around me  might not like it  much but oh well.

I would rather have one good cook stove that burns wood that a fancy gas stove. Cant wait for this farmers porch to get put on, because Rob said he is going to build me a root cellar underneath it.
Sitting here I can see one of the little rescue kittens sitting int he barn window. Time to milk Abby and go feed them some warm milk

I really do need to get busy, this load of laundry is done so I need to hang it out and start a new load.4 more to go for today and the lines will be filled back up.

Time to go open up the farm stand also. be glad to put some produce out there,, be nice when it starts coming in.

Well you all have a wonderful day. Found several recipes I need  to post but it will have to wait til its raining as I need to beat the rain.

God Bless
