Welcome to a new year. New ideas. Old ways of farming. Many conversations have taken place over the past few months here and things have to change. The way we do things arent bringing in enough money to support the farm. Animals and technics we use.
I want to go back in time and use ole fashion. My farm will be doing things the old fashion ways. I want the house and yard and garden to go back in time.
I am going thru my fabric looking for good material to make more long dresses and skirts, apron. I throughly enjoyed doing my garden in town this past summer barefoot and long skirts. People often ask arent you to hot. no the heat doesnt get thru to the skin. Arent you too cold no the cold doesnt get thru when dressed in layers.
I enjoy making prairie dresses and bloomers, petticoats and apron. Will get into the boys pants and shirts to sell also.
In conversations we have decided every animal on the farm must serve a duel purpose. Provide some type of product, example, chickens-eggs, cows - milk, goats must either provide meat, milk or babies same with the cows. Considering doing pigs again, duel purpose will be land clearing and pork. The only animal here now who cost way more then they have ever brought in are the horses and that will change. Either they get used for logging, wagon rides, some type of money venture or we dont have them.
Many new ideas for the gardens have also been gone over. some where some how we will have a green house of sorts. It may only be small to start, but it will work. I think the garden in Bristol will do so much better this year because I will be able to get to work in from spring and have time to get my seeds this winter.
If you have a farm and do homesteading? What do you do or have for ideas for a farm to make money? What have you learnt thru trial and error things that work, things that dont? Any imput would be great.
Well suppose time to get back to work. Very cold here today. Time to check bedding and water for everyone.
Have an awesome day and be blessed in all you do
The farm stand has to provide a service not just at decoration at the end of the driveway.
All the barns need some major overhauling to provide homes for the chickens and goats for this coming yr. I believe most of the animals and barns will either be moved or built up on the second lot so the driveway area will be turned into garden space and flowers which could be sold on the farm stand. I dont mind the hard work as long there will be benefits to reap in the end.
