March 29,2013 Good Friday

Good morning from the mountain. a beautiful sun rise was enjoyed, pinks and white, hues of purple and blues.. Just beautiful.  The sun is now shining thru the front window. The warmth is nice. Happy Good Friday to all who believe. and for those who dont,, I still hope you have a good Friday.
Today is the 145 day for my goats so hoping the rest of the eight that are due will deliver by this weekend,, then we will be done til next round. I believe that the 2 that delivered months earlier might be bred again.
We do now have 5 pigs,, not quite piglets a bit bigger but not big pigs yet either. It is nice to have pigs on the farm again. They will be tasty this winter.
trying to get a goat milking stand built so I can start milking a few of my girls. Have a friend willing to teach me to how to make cheese and yogurt.
We  also picked up 41 baby chicks on Tuesday so they would be next years layers.
So far we have 6 new babies out side and still the 2 twins inside. Several set of twins, 1 set of triplets with only one making it fromthem. sad when babies die, life has a way of taking care of things. Patrick and clover are twins, Tammy and Laura, another set, Daffodil was a single birth and Bubba J was the only buck out of the triplets. Born months ago , Puddin and Emily and the twins Rosie and Pearl.  8 more does to deliver. We are blessed to have does take the lead this year.

Mud season has arrived and our driveway is very wet. But we arent minding because that means the snow is melting. We still have over 2-3 feet of snow in places. Driving thru different towns off the mountain ,there is no snow.. Only bare ground we have is the driveway.
Well I guess the coffee cup is empty and that  is my clue to get busy. The girls are lined up at the fence looking for breakfast. See the wind is blowing be glad when the sun is warmer tha the wind is cold.

You all have an awesome day chores, house work, ironing, baking and Nick to dr's are on the schedule today..

God Bless

March 12,2013---Mud season upon us

Good morning from the mountain.  All is still very dark and almost quiet. A kritters great and small are still enjoying their slumber time.
Grizzley the dog  has decided to attach himself to and as my shadow lately. So having him sleep next to my side of the bed is not something i am use to or enjoy.  my little mop dog makes  way to much noise at bed time. But I notice i am up and enjoying my second  cup of coffee he is now still as my shadow but sleeping soundly and quietly.

Mud Season is upon us,, I am so happy. For as I get older I like winter and cold weather less and less. i do understand so many out there are winter nuts,, but not me. as a kid we never came in,, as I have lived up here on the mountain almost 13 years this year, I so much enjoy the warmer weather. Falling to many times in the past where myself and  gravity checks were a very common thing we became quite close,,really...

So excited to announce Ledge Hill Farm has piglets again.  Bought these this past weekend and now have 5 to raise and sell for meat. With alot of new improvements going on, not sure whether I am going to get back into breeding them. Well not yet anyways.  I do enjoy them and love to watch the babies run around the pens for the  first time exploring.
No more baby goats yet. Starting to think Miss Daisy is to old to give birth, of course she is the size of a small house. Everyone  else will start  kidding out in the next few weeks. Looking at a very busy April. The twins still live in the house, Rosie and Pearl have taken up residence in my kitchen. Yesterday I introduce them to a kennel. Not really thinking they are very happy with me, but Sunday we came home to some of my magazines chewed on, a sewing  box totally spilled out all over the floor. So figured it was time to pen them up when we arent home. Emily is now 6 weeks old and growing just awesome and Puddin will be 3 months on the 26th. cant wait to see who else has babies and what their  little habits will be.
Was very Blessed a few weeks back to have the chance to sell 18 roosters. That has helped the chicken feed bill go down just a bit. Trying to count hens yesterday we are in the ball park of 70. Some will be sold out as they are getting  old. Trying to maintain an average of 60 fresh layers at all time. Still looking for another large wire kennel for the ducks and geese. As they are still at the other farm. Very thankful for the help with them, but looking forward to having them come home and add to the egg laying supply.
So very happy to see warmer weather coming, I  started  some of my seeds yesterday 4 trays with 72 pods per tray. Need to get a few more. some how this summer I will have a green house put up, it probably wont be a commercial one, but for my needs and pocket book a hoop one would work just fine. Have informed Rob I cant eat the lawn so we might as well plant it. We dont have a lawn mower so to speak so why not make it all garden space.

Was told last week my mother is moving back to NH. I am very glad to hear that. Nice to have family around.

Well I suppose I need to get off the computer and get busy, its almost 5am and time to get the trucker up and going and I can see the bottom to my coffee cup.
I hope you have just an awesome day.

God Bless

March 3,2013

Good morning from another snowy day on the mountain.  I know its March and spring is just 18 days away,,,but I dont think I will see green grass at this point until May.

Cabin  fever is kicking my butt this year,, something I have never had a problem. But  so much snow is making it difficult to get out side to do anything.

Rob will be bringing home a bull dozer today to move some of these piles of snow back out of the driveway.  Need a path around the horse pen and  a path to the chickens to make  haul buckets a little bit easier.

Going to start my seeds this week to get  things started  for the gardens.  Cant wait for dirty fingernails and warm soil.  Tractor tan and dirty knees from weeding.  Hey a girl can dream cant she.

A new set of twin doelings were born almost 4 weeks ago,, they live in my kitchen. So needless to say  life is interesting to say the least.
Pearl & Rosie have added  life to the house thats for sure.

Lots of new events coming to the farm,, a rustic camping area will be coming about,,, lots of work to get ready.  Hoping to have several sites ready after Memorial Day depending on the weather and snow melt. When finished plans is to have 5 tiny houses, basic ,simple, rustic. No running water or power.  Propane lights and stove. Not sure about frig yet lots of money.Wood heat when needed. fire pit, picnic table.. There will be a water supply and porta pottys to start til bath house can be built...

Big plans for gardens all over the place,, I cant eat grass so might as well use the soil for planting something. Alot of things in planning stages and in design stage..

Will be an exciting summer.

I guess for now I should go  paint a snow tractor and  play with some chickens and goats..  I hope you all have an awesome day.

God Bless
